Destin, Florida The World's Luckiest Fishing Village

About – Destin is the most well-known destination on the Emerald Coast. It got its nickname as “the world’s luckiest fishing village” due to its close proximity to the Desoto Canyon, an extremely deep cut in the Gulf of Mexico that is home to many fish species, giving it great fishing success. Destin has since become the epicenter of commercial fishing charters and tourism on the Gulf Coast boasting sugar white beaches, an incredibly scenic harbor, and a vibrant local economy.

What You’ll Find – Destin offers a variety for those looking to buy Florida real estate. On the Gulf side of Destin there are a variety of condominium options including both rental and non-rental buildings as well as waterfront homes and townhomes nestled along the canals off the harbor that are within walking/ biking/ golf cart distance to the beach. The northern edge of Destin is defined by the Choctawhatchee Bay upon whose shores and bayous lie some immaculate waterfront homes. West Destin is the closest district to the Harborfront and north of there are more moderately priced homes, while moving Eastward are some impressive planned communities with world class golf courses and other amenities.

Lifestyle – Destin is sought after for its unique beauty, incredible beaches, and easy boat access to the Gulf of Mexico for some of the best fishing in the world. Outdoor adventures and watersports abound, but if you want to lay on the beach with a good book, visit a local oyster bar with live music or relax on a boat at Crab Island, Destin is great for that, too. With an incredible fishing history, market and industry, the local restaurants are always serving up the freshest caught grouper, snapper, oysters, shrimp and other local seafood. Whether it’s an oyster dive bar or fine cuisine, you should expect to find great food.

Appeal – Destin’s laid back, fishing, and beach culture along with great food and world class amenities such as the Destin Commons and Harborwalk Village make it incredibly appealing for those who want the relaxed beach lifestyle but do not want to give up the shopping and other amenities of a bigger city. The beaches here are pristine, and Destin really allows one to truly have both the boat and beach experience without much compromise.

Amenities – Destin pretty much has everything you could want for amenities from world class golf courses such as Kelly Plantation, Regatta Bay, Indian Bayou and Emerald Bay to world class lifestyle centers like Destin Commons with international brands, a large movie theater and many shops and restaurants. Destin also has the big names we want and are used to for our necessities such as Lowes, Home Depot, Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Target, Walmart, etc. However, the best places are the local markets such as Destin Seafood and Ice House, Sexton’s, Local Market and others.

Market Info – Destin is a year round destination these days, but the Summer is certainly still the busiest season. West Destin and the gated neighborhoods on the north side of Destin is where most of the permanent residents reside, and then south of Hwy 98 is more focused on the vacation rental business. Holiday Isle is a unique spot because one can have a house on the water and still walk to the beach. Other close towns that are commonly associated with Destin are Miramar Beach, Sandestin, and Okaloosa Island.
